This phrase came from an old nursery rhyme predicting a child’s fate based on the day they were born:
“Monday’s child is fair of face, Tuesday’s child is full of grace, Wednesday’s child is full of woe,…”
She was born on a Wednesday, and her mother had often recited the rhyme to her with innocent affection—never realising it would take root in her subconscious and quietly shape the course of her life.
She asked me, “Can one decision really cause that much damage?”
